After several years practicing in the current complex landscape of healthcare, Dr. Cardona realized her core values of empathy, respect, safety, trust, and equity were not aligned with the healthcare status quo. She found it difficult to sustain a professional relationship with a system that was profit and metrics driven, that valued quantity over quality, and was impersonal, inaccessible and deliberately complex.

Dr. Garland chose family medicine and primary care to focus on the whole patient and prevent illness and disease. However, she found it challenging to engage with a system driven by profit margins and metrics, which often seemed detached, difficult to navigate, and unnecessarily convoluted. This environment contributed to physician burnout, patient dissatisfaction, and a growing sense of disillusionment in medicine.
